REVIEW and GIVEAWAY: Cows Can’t Jump by Dave Reisman

Cows Can’t Jump by Dave Reisman

Release Date: October 19, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

For many years, I have been working with children’s books – working at a children’s book store was actually my first job.  So, I don’t know why it has taken me this long to review children’s books on my blog, but here we go!

I have a thing for cows. I love them – they are cute AND they are good to eat – does it get better than that? Well, yes it does – especially when you put them in a children’s book (they get even cuter!).  Cows Can’t Jump follows animals and their movements.

“Cows can jump… but they can swim.  Gorillas can’t swim… but they can swing” and so on.  Each animal has what they can do and what they can’t do.  The book is illustrated by Jason A. Maas in oil on canvas, and the paintings are absolutely charming.  I’d recommend this book for toddlers through early readers.  The book is entertaining when read aloud, but it also has a wonderful vocabulary for readers just starting out.   I highly recommend this book, AND it has a sequel – Cows Can’t Quack, a companion explaining the sounds that animals make.

Thanks to the publisher, I will be giving away one SIGNED copy of each book!  To enter, please e-mail me at bookaddictkatie[AT]gmail[DOT]com with your name and address by midnight EST January 12th. I will announce a winner for each book on January 13th. U.S. only please.
